I like to believe that if I’m going to do something mundane and necessary, why not at least make it enjoyable and bearable? Are you with me? Okay. That’s exactly how I feel about tackling household chores.
The inevitable part of living in your own space is the upkeep and cleaning. Like many of you, being a working professional and a student amongst other things, other life demands sometimes take precedence leaving cleaning on the back burner.
My husband and I have created a system that works for us when it comes to taking care of our home and tackling annoying chores. More often than not we do the basic cleaning during the week between going to work, coming home to prep dinner, me going to my evening lectures and everything in between.
When the weekend comes around, typically Saturday, we’re in full clean up mode. We prefer to divide and conquer- we each take a room and don’t move on to the next until that one is clean and organized. Luckily for us, we currently live in a one bedroom apartment so it doesn’t make for an entire days worth of cleaning but you’d be surprised how the place looks by the end a hectic week.
By splitting up the duties it allows for the work to be done quickly and allows us to both appreciate the clean space we spent time putting together. We blast our favourite a Spotify playlist and get to work.
When it’s all said and done, we can actually relax and peace and enjoy the weekend. In my opinion there’s nothing worse than leaving all the chores and work until Sunday when you’re already mentally preparing yourself for another work week.
Our go-to cleaning products:
- Pine-Sol Surface Cleaner – Great for all purpose cleaning. This works really well for mopping and deep cleaning the bathroom sink, shower/tub.
- Swiffer WetJet – Gone are the days of mopping with the raggedy mop and bucket which is probably the most unsanitary combination. This is also great for spot mopping and quick clean ups.
- Scrubbing Bubbles Daily Shower Cleaner – Game changer. This daily spray helps to combat buildup making the weekend shower cleaning task a breeze. Just spray shower/tub surfaces after use and let it do its thing.
- Lysol Disinfecting Wipes – We use these all around the house- from the kitchen to the bathroom. I especially love them in the kitchen for disinfecting counters and taps after handling raw meat.
How do you navigate the week to help you with tackling household chores without the stress?
